A Celebration of Op shop Culture in Tāmaki.
Preloved Project by Serena Stevenson.
Op shop culture has taken a fashionable and funky turn positioning itself as a new way of living. The Preloved project brings the art of the op shopping experience to life in a multi-media and experiential way. For 6 weeks from the 10th of April, the Tāmaki and greater Auckland is transformed into the preloved story experience.
Multimedia artist Serena Stevenson designs a story experience using video, photography, graphic art, interactive installation, workshops, events, online digital, and street art. Taking the audience into the never seen before the intimate world of op-shopping from the hearts of the Tāmaki community
Serena Stevenson says
“Preloved is designed to be both educational and entertaining.
Engaging local communities in op shop culture promotes a circular economy and lowers the ever-growing waste issue.
Throwing away clothes and household items into landfill is not a good option for our environment and that’s why we are promoting how much fun op-shopping can be”.
This project is an ongoing conversation and has scope for far reach around Auckland, to document and curate the stories of the rest of Auckland’s op-shop culture. With the aim to make Op-shopping the general norm.
